Consumer Loan Collector (Bilingual preferred)

We’re currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Collector to join our team and help us maintain strong member relationships while ensuring the financial health of our organization.

 

Position Purpose/Summary:

Immediate in-person opening at our Jersey City location for an experienced Collector who will be responsible for managing a portfolio of delinquent accounts, working with borrowers to resolve past-due balances, and minimizing losses to the credit union. This role requires a proactive, empathetic, and results-driven professional with a deep understanding of collections practices and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate possesses the ability to work quickly & efficiently to resolve and recover debt.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and monitor a portfolio of delinquent loans.
  • Contact members via phone, email, and written correspondence to resolve delinquent accounts.
  • Negotiate payment arrangements and settlements in accordance with credit union policies/guidelines.
  • Recommend accounts for repossession, foreclosure, or legal action when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all collection activities.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state collection laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to resolve member issues and improve recovery efforts.

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in collections, preferably in a credit union or financial institution.
  • Knowledge of collection laws, credit reporting, and bankruptcy procedures.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred

 

Schedule:

  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM; 1–2 evenings per week until 8:00 PM; 2 Saturdays per month from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM.
  • Hours: 40 hours weekly, OT available.

 

Salary:

  • Non-exempt Salary will be based on experience, in the range of $18.00-$20.00 per hour.
